Comment: Debbie, I really like the Guerrilla Girl card....weapons no woman should know about, indeed! :-D It is funny, I just finished up a legal research project in which I was looking at lawsuits relating to "stray voltage." A great many of the cases involved dairy farms in Wisconsin, imagine that! Apparently, cows' hooves are very good conductors of electricity. Poor things, getting zapped right and left. Makes my mouth water. Now that the colder weather is coming, time to cook. Although my husband doesn't appreciate the smell of cabbage in the house so I have to make them on sunny days when I can leave the windows open for awhile. Shirley

Comment: Hi Debbie! I have not seen that lighthouse. I have been to Split Rock which must be up in that area. If I ever get up there again I will have to look for it. What medium did you like to work best in when you were into art? I like to think of myself as a sculptor but paint more often. I have been substitute teaching which just makes me want to do my own art more. It also makes me tired and it is harder to get to your stuff. I like to hear that you are still being creative though. I really like the postcard exchange since it is seeing a slice of different cultures and what is important to them. We run to the Cities often. Is Wilson over by Baldwin? The classes were quite different that those for art education, but I took five semesters of art metals because I loved it so much. I made a few hollow metal vessels and lots of jewelry. I also really liked ceramics. Wilson is 9 miles east of Baldwin, at exit 28 (highway 128). There is a nice Kwik Trip at our exit. I hope you have a really great Thanksgiving! :)

We are in the middle of nowhere and don't have too much of anything. That's the worst part of living out here. Oh well, not much you can do when you are farmers are own land. Comment: Thanks for the nice Wisconsin postcard. I don't think I've ever seen a longhorn in any color other than brown or brown and white. We have all kinds of cows here. I don't know the names of them, be we have black ones and black and white ones too.

Comment: I went to Red Oak with my college best friend to get fitted for my bridesmaid dress. That part of Iowa is all hills! ^laugh^ Thanks for the pc! I loved how your family is so tied to Iowa and that you noted how old your schoolhouse was.

Comment: My family and I were actually in Wisconsin for the very first time this week! We drove up to Chicago to visit our son...and we were so close to WI that we drove up to the state line...just so say we did...HA!! Oh yes, we stopped at the McDonalds to have ice cream....it was a VERY hot day..HA!! Thanks again for sharing :^))

Comment: Enjoyed taking a look at the images on your postcard! Farming, agriculture, and dairy cows definitely are things that I associate with Wisconsin. We live a few miles from the MN-WI border, so we are in WI quite a bit. Love the rural parts and open space. Just beautiful!!

Comment: Thank you for the pretty card. That area of Wisconsin is a lot like upstate NY. NY also has the farms and rolling hills. My son earns money for college working on a farm.
Response: Yes, I think there are several states that look like Wisconsin (like Ohio and Indiana). I started working on a neighbor's farm when I was years old - one of the best experiences I ever had! It really teaches a person how to work hard. Thanks for the heart!

We still have some snow on the ground, but it's that kind of dirty snow that won't melt on its own and has to be collected and brought to the snow melting fabrics.

We live within a couple hours of a whole bunch of lighthouses - it's my goal this summer (provided it ever gets warm and stops snowing, of course) to go visit as many of them as I can!

Comment: Thankyou for the PC. it must be nice to be able to visit the zoo often. we have one that is also about 45 mins away, but i rarely get to go. the last couple times i went was for my birthdays. its nice because beginning of Nov, its very quiet and not alot of traffic.

I really like sending and receiving international cards, because it gives me a chance to learn about other places, people, and cultures. It's my way of "traveling" on the cheap. It was a big adjustment, but I have been living in small towns in Indiana and now on a farm so it's more like the part of Europe that I come from. Postcards are a nice way to see the world and make new friends, I agree. Mary
Response: Hello Mary- I think Chicago would be a very big adjustment for most of us. I have lived in the country since I was 11 years old (about 35 years now), and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Do you have any animals on your farm? We have 80 acres, but my husband drives an hour to work each day, so there is no time for animals. But as soon as he retires, we have "big" plans for a few goats, chickens, sheep, etc. We are really looking forward to that.

Response: Genealogy isn't necessarily difficult, especially with all the information that is online these days. My family is really spread out, too, but if you can get basic information on your grandparents and great grandparents, you are set to search! Let me know if you have the desire to look, and I will give you some pointers.

Comment: Fall Creek and Augusta sound like wonderful places to visit. It's be a nice fall trip to take since it is relatively close to where I live. My parents, daughters, and I were just in LaCrosse and Cashton a little over a month ago. We really enjoyed going on the backroads of WI, and visiting Amish farms in Cashton.
Response: If you make it to this area, you have to visit the Weaver Store. It is right on Highway 12, just to the east of Fall Creek. They have all sorts of bulk items, plus homemade goodies from the Mennonites. Best wishes. Debbie Christian

Response: Yes, I actually joined Postcrossing first, but I didn't find swapbot for a few months after that. Between the two sites, I keep myself busy enough with postcards. But it's SO fun!

Response: It is beautiful here, but if you like food, Wisconsin is a good place to come. You will have to sample the cheese factories, small town bakeries, and meat markets. In fact, we are all a bit chubby here.

Response: You are very welcome. Please come to Wisconsin anytime. If you like the big city, Milwaukee is a beautiful old city that has been rehabbed. If you like small towns and ethnic towns, New Glarus is Swedish, and Mineral Point is Welsh (I think). Either way, the bakeries are worth the trip alone! :)

Response: It's surprising how many lighthouses Wisconsin has. You don't think of lighthouses being associated with Wisconsin, but we have 2 shorelines - Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Maybe someday you can visit WI and see a few. :)

Comment: I love that postcard! I also love cheese -- & I'm also into genealogy! I've traced my father's paternal line all the way back to the 15th century, but can't get past my mother's parents. Frustrating!
Response: I'm glad you liked the card I sent. And yes, I have had many frustrating moments in genealogy as well. My toughest nut to crack is my mom's maternal grandparents, who came from Ukraine in 1913. I can't read the records because it's the wrong alphabet! It's always something. :)
