Comment: I loved seeing all the decorated trees in your town! The blue one by the kindergarten is beautiful. The Advent candles that become lit one by one each week during the Advent season is something I've never seen before. I wish the churches around here would do that. That's interesting that your town turns off the lights at 11 p.m. I wish that the lights would be turned off at buildings that aren't being used at night here. There is way too much light pollution which makes it difficult to see the stars. In your case, though, with the lights being turned off before the last train comes in is different. Hope the electrical prices come down and the lights can come back on again - especially for safety reasons.

Comment: I love the snow you had! We also get snow/thaw/slush cycles, and all our just snow melted and it's too warm for winter and I want snow back! The crocodiles are adorable. And yes, I do know about Fabergé eggs and they are amazing works of art; it's neat to learn about where they come from.
Response: We just lost all our snow as well. :( I hope we get a new one and concentrate on "at least it wasn't just warm enough to make snow into ice but also to melt that ice".

Comment: Well done! This was a tough challenge. (My first word was 'of' .... I'm afraid I dismissed it and added two other words. I really couldn't think of how to take a picture of 'of'!) How useful of your neighbours to keep a pot of flowers on the lawn, even if it's intended to keep you from driving on it! And I think the pipe game was a good and creative interpretaion of the task. Comment: Hi Kati! Thank you so much for the sweet Easter card and for sharing some of your Easter traditions with me - I never knew that Easter eggs could be dyed with onion peels! That is so interesting and I would love to try it some time :-) Off to research...!
Response: How we do it is to tie onion peels tight next to eggs before boiling these. You can boil just together with onion peels as well, but the you get even brown color instead of surprise patterns. This year, we had only little fragments of onion peel so we put these in cloth pieces and tied like little sacks with thread all around, but in previous years I have saved larger pieces beforehand, and then no cloth is needed, just thread.

Comment: Hi Kati! Thank you for the lovely card and the tree photos! I know nothing about Lativa and it was awesome to see snow covered trees - so beautiful! Do you get much snow each year? We had about 8 inches a few weeks ago, which was a bunch for this area! It had been years since we had that much! I am not a huge snow fan and like it the first day after that, it could disappear and all would be good in my world! LOL! Thanks again for everything! All the best! Response: I mostly just wish it wouldn't turn into ice - I hate melting-freezing-melting-freezing weathers, I'd rather have just cold enough to stay frozen. Winter without snow just isn't real winter, though!

Comment: It was interesting to learn about kindergarten in Latvia. In the US there is Pre-K (preshool) for ages 3-4 and kindergarten for 5 year olds but at 6 they go to first grade. In 1st grade they usually sit at desks all day and learn writing, reading and math. Playtime and drama play and blocks and all that are used occasionally in Kindergarten but not in first grade. That's mainly done in PreK so is naptime. When they get to Kindergarten at age 5 in most districts they go to school from 8 or 9am to 2 or 3pm with no naptime. Sometimes if the kids are acting up the teacher will have them put their heads down on their desks and rest Its amazing how different education is in different countries

Comment: Hi Kati, I am sorry to be so late in rating your swap. I'm not being lazy, but have been really sick for the last month. This long illness ended with me in the ER twice and 1 Urgent Care in 5 days. My visit to Urgent Care got me in an ambulance and in the hospital after more evaluation in the ER. They are still unclear about what caused my whole body to tailspin and I could have had seizures or even passed away. This has been scary! Comment: It can be hard to get back into the normal swing of things after a change of pace, especially when young kids are in the mix! I dread the day that I'll have to get a new dentist - I've had the same dentist all of my life, and he's fantastic. (I'm just lucky that he was willing to take on my husband and our kids as patients too!)

However, you might look into local charities to see if they accept yarn or even finished objects. Response: The plant is a rhododendron, and the "rudzu pārslas" are in English just plain old rye flakes (like corn flakes for breakfast but these are rye flakes with honey). ;) Yes for the rest!

My 18 year old son (they're supposed to be cynical and unimpressed) walked by and gave an enthusiastic "ooooh!" and came back for a better look. Just beautiful! Hard to believe you're (as you say) "a beginner!" I love the velvety texture of the soft crayons. Great idea!

Comment: Wow! The polymer clay cover is Very cool! The only advice I can give is to come up with some sort of ribbon or clasp or something so it can stay closed. I've been playing with magnets for that but not sure how that'd work with the clay.

Comment: Wonderful matchbox kit - thank you :-). The box decoration is very funky & will definitely be re-purposed once the doll has been constructed! Both postlady & husband rolled their eyes at the packaging, but I thought it was cool.
Response: I think a small box is so much safer for a matchbox than a bubble envelope, don't you think? My post clerk did not like the smallness of the box, though - it was difficult for her to fix the customs declaration to it.

Many, many thanks :-) More great photos, one of the sea-the middle one could have been taken looking north along our beach except in place of the treese there would be mountains in the far distance. Our beach is just 7 mins walk away. Yes, there can be no summer without sea. hugs :-) The last of the photos have arrived and as usal a great news letter to go with them. Comment: Sorry for the late rating... things have been crazy since recent fires but as far as I can tell this did arrive the beginning of August, or late July, on time and beautifully presented. I am just sorting through stuff now that we've been back home a week and a 1/2. My favorites are the orange leaves, the yellow because you also captured the bee and the white goat cause "his" tongue is sticking out and thats seems to be my attitude on life lately, lol. Thanks.

Where I live I have rabbits and frogs all in our yard and flowers and when we take our dogs outside they trample my poor flower beds, so you can see why I love the card so much. It's very beautiful and the paw prints make it even better. You are very talented. Thank you very much. Also thank you for the chocolate. I will have to share it with hubby when he gets home.

Comment: Kati!!! I raced to the post office today on my break from work, was the first one in line and waited patiently while the worker went to find my package. She handed it to me and said "You're so lucky, I wonder what's in it?" I couldn't wait (just like a little kid at times) to open it. Right there in front of her and another worker, they watched me open your most wonderful, beautiful package of goodies. Your matchbox was so lovely and all of the goodies, both edible and the embellishments are perfect! They were drooling so I gave them a piece of chocolate to share. Oh, I think I (you) made their day! Thank you x a million. If I could add stars, you would get a handful girl! I love everything.

Comment: A very beautiful card. I love the netting and the sewn edges. The only critique I have is to maybe use a darker thread to outline the leaf. Other than that, everything was done so wonderfully. It was very hard for me to find something to critique!
Response: Actually, it was light by intention, I would have liked the outline to be made up only of edges of netting pieces, but I had to attach them somehow.

Comment: A lovely ATC , Hard to think of any thing I didn't like. I love the colours and using fusible beads as a medium of art... not seen that before on an atc. Next time maybe print your details on the back rather than joined up writing . I love your work!!!
