Comment: Thanks for the card -- this is a place I would love to visit, too. Would you believe my grandmother's brother was the city engineer for Manassas in the 1950's! Comment: Thank you for an adorable postcard. I love it. Weird thing happened to it.. You made mistake in my building number (8 instead of 38). In this house lives my mom's friend. Yesterday, on her way home, she saw a nice postcard in paper trash bin. She looked what it is and saw my name on it. And that how the pc was saved :) from being recycled fate.

In recent years scholars have speculated that the painting doesn't actually depict a nun, although it has been described as such since the 1500's. The attire, particularly the head garb, may be secular, but some scholars consider it to be Benedictine or Dominican. The San Secondo convent was reserved for daughters of the wealthiest Venetian families. The conventions of dress were fairly loose until 1515 when strict reforms were enforced by religious and political authorities in Venice.

Comment: Brace yourself for disappointment when you sit down to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The movie is awful compared to the book. (Namely McMurphy isn't a self-involved jerk in the novel).
Fun fact about Cuckoo's Nest: Ken Kesey, the author, worked as a night shift janitor in a psych ward. Because he's absolutely crazy, Ken got some of his nurse friends to give him ECT (shock therapy) just to experiment. Purportedly a few times while on acid. ...the 60s were a strange time man...
Response: The movie usually is awful compared to the book. I cannot wait to read the book. :)

Comment: I really, really love getting a Washington, DC card that I have never seen before? Did you happen to get this at Mount Vernon? I went there around Christmas and couldn't believe the amount of postcards and goodies in the gift shop! Also the food was awesome!
Response: Yes I did get it at Mount Vernon. I went a couple years ago and got a huge book. Now it is almost empty. I guess I need to go in to the city again or at least Alexandria.

I had tons of straights that I just donated to my friend's school where the teaching assistant is teaching the 5th grade kids to knit. Response: I sent you this on July 3 you could have messaged me before rating a 1 so I could resend the stickers. Not to mention it is a well known fact that Saudi Arabia heavily monitors everything that goes in to the country. So to go International mail through customs takes a bit of time.

Comment: Great card, Laura--thanks much! When my sons were middle school aged, I took them to the VA Civil War Battlefield where their Great Great Grandfather was injured. They just didn't get it, saying, "it's just a field, Mom!". But it gave me chills thinking about what had happened there. I guess they were just too young to appreciate it yet.

Guess what, those butterfly napkins- my little girl is having a butterfly themed b-day party tomorrow afternoon (er, today technically, the 21st). What perfect timing! My oldest daughter, who is the baker in the family, has promised to make me gnome cookies for my birthday with the cc you sent; it should go without saying I adore the robot and map pc; and all the cool brads, deco tape, and strawberry stuff is just too cute! I feel so spoiled; but my favorite thing, well, we named him Charlie, after my husband, who is an unofficial "turtle rescuer". We all took turns loving on him, our new little ami-go:) Thanks you sososo much! BIG hugs:D

Response: I am so glad you liked everything. You wouldn't believe how stressed out I was. It's extremely difficult buying for someone else's home. Little personal things are one thing but home decor is another. I see stuff that I think is so cute or beautiful but I do have my own taste.

Comment: Thank you for the postcard! It's very poinent (sp??) to me. I went to Niagara Falls on a tour just 11 days after 9/11. Only 3 people dropped from that tour. The rest of us - there were 48 - said we're not letting them win! We all went with 3! forms of id! The greetings we got in Canada and the rest of the New England states when we showed up - and the fact that we hadn't cancelled our tour - were wonderful and still fill my eyes with tears. The country was truely united! Thank you for this memory! I'd give you more hearts if I could!
